This is Woody. He was our pet woodpecker for about 2.5 days. He was
loud and wild. He is a Yellow-bellied sapsucker and a male. Females
have a white throat males have the red throat. They eat bugs and sap.
These birds also migrate during winter.
So how did we get Woody? Well one day after work I was driving home and there I saw my wife with big black winter gloves and a blue bucket. She was on the neighbor’s side of the fence reaching over to our side of the fence. She then would look again down at the neighbor’s side of the fence trying to do something. I thought she had gone mad.
I quickly parked the car and got out. The cat was staring down from one of the two trees and the dog also glaring down at the ground from the side of the other tree. So walking over I found out it was a woodpecker that didn’t seem able to fly. We managed to get it into a bigger bucket and then later in to a cage we used to have.
Jenn named him Woody. For two days I didn't know if I was coming home
or visiting the zoo. A cat, two fish tanks, a dog and a woodpecker.
Jenn took Woody to a Vet that looks at wild animals. We let him out
he would not fly just hop along the ground however the Vet figured
Woody
was just fine and released him.
It was fun having Woody as a pet even though he wouldn't do much except peck at his cage at an insanely fast speed or squawk really loud if you came remotely close to him. I even made him a ball of peanut butter and bird seed that he seemed ungrateful for. I liked him anyways. Good luck Woody.
